About the Book (long):

Tarot for Pregnancy: A Companion for Radical Magical Birthing Folks is for parents-to-be who want to tap into internal and ancestral wisdom on the journey to and through parenthood. Filled with incredible artwork by Kimberly Rodriguez (IG: Poetagoddess), Tarot for Pregnancy is the perfect book for any soon-to-be (or already) parent—and a sure-to-be staple at every baby shower in the future! Written for both the amateur tarot fan and the initiated birth activist, Tarot for Pregnancy offers a rare tour-de-force, opening up the tarot as both a guide to the future and a handbook for the important activism that modern birthing requires. Carmona-Holt's book offers tactical guidance and rituals to guide the reader's birthing experience, empowering them to connect to their ancestral truths in order greet their baby on their own terms. Grounded by two critical essays, History [Mystery] of the Tarot by Sanyu Estelle Nagenda, “The Word Witch,” and The History of Birth in the United States by Dr. Stephanie Mitchell, “Doctor Midwife,” Tarot for Pregnancy guides readers to better understand the history, mystery, and ritual of both Tarot and pregnancy. Throughout the book, Carmona-Holt helps reader to better understand, experience, and advocate for their soon-to-be baby by utilizing the magic of the tarot to guide and empower them. Filled with illustrated pearls of wisdom, Tarot for Pregnancy offers a trauma-informed, antiracist, and evidence-based spiritual resource for folks wanting to make intuition-led decisions about their care during pregnancy and birth. Tarot for Pregnancy aims to inspire and ignite those who wish to utilize their journeys to birth as a means of activism, personal empowerment, and magical parenting.

Shorter snippets to share about the book:

1. Tarot for Pregnancy will be the first tarot guide that is entirely bespoke to the experiences that new parents go through on the reproductive continuum, and is already gaining attention and comments about how necessary this particular lens of looking at reproductive health is.

2. It features entirely original art by artist Kimberly Rodriguez who’s art is not only beautiful and ancestral, but depicts body types, identities, and families that are rarely, if ever, seen in pregnancy books, in an effort to not just include and validate all pregnant people, but enhance all reader’s experiences of pregnancy through the simple act of seeing themselves represented in this light, facilitating a sense of belonging to welcome folks to the parenthood club.

3. Tarot for Pregnancy  is not just tarot card meanings bespoke to the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences, but also a companion offering continual support throughout the entire experience from conception to postpartum. Herbal recipes, journal prompts, helpful lists, and exercises for community building all round out the book to make it an actual supportive tool, rather that simply educational.

4. Tarot for Pregnancy is a culmination of author, Brittany Carmona-Holt’s, years of experience as a thoughtful, poetic, and culturally critical writer, her budding career as a full spectrum doula, and her natural talent and inclination for reading the cards in a truly supportive, trauma-informed, and life-enriching way.

5. Tarot for Pregnancy offers a rare opportunity for readers to receive unique advice on pregnancy and birth specific to their personal current experience, instead of reading a whole pregnancy book cover to cover and assuming it’s all relevant to every pregnant person.

6. The book features a thorough and necessary history lesson on the inception of cartomancy and tarot by Sanyu Estelle Nagenda, “The Word Witch.”

7. A chapter titled “The History of Birth in the US” succinctly, but thoroughly written by Dr. Stephanie Mitchell CNM, CPM, “Doctor Midwife,” informs readers of the cultural and political landscape upon which experiences and outcomes along the reproductive continuum are built today.

8. Tarot for Pregnancy was written with the intent of any reader being able to use their own tarot deck they already own for accessibility, but a Tarot for Pregnancy Deck is in creation currently which will offer readers another angle to read into these energies to support their pregnancy journeys and even more of Kimberly Rodriguez’s detailed and soul-igniting imagery in the card illustrations.

9. Tarot for Pregnancy takes its place in an already rich landscape of reproductive justice works, always citing and honoring the important Birthworkers fighting for reproductive justice, never claiming to stand alone in referential pregnancy texts, but filling a spiritual void nonetheless in the landscape of supportive pregnancy texts.

10. Given the universal truth that we were all gestated and birthed - this particular angle on understanding reproductive health from both the parent and child’s perspectives is relevant to all audiences. An enjoyable read whether you’re currently pregnant or not, Tarot for Pregnancy is at home on the shelves of all parents and mystics alike, and anyone who is seeking deeper understanding of the impact how we were gestated and birthed has on our personalities and ability to show up in our full humanity as adults.
